NEPA Businesses Collaborate Products to
Produce New Candy Recipe

Laceyville, Montrose, Pennsylvania, July 28, 2007 – Hidden Creek Vineyard & Winery of Laceyville, PA and The Sweet Spot featuring Chocolates by Leopold of Montrose, PA got together and created a new chocolate candy flavors made from Hidden Creek’s newest wine flavor, Daniel Hunter and Blossoms, their cherry wine. Master Confectioner Leopold tasted several of Hidden Creek’s wines and chose the wines that would work well in a chocolate wine truffle exclusive and secret recipe.

“I’m so excited that our wines are being used in creative ways,” Ruth Leichliter, co-owner of Hidden Creek Vineyard & Winery, told us. “Our new flavors, Daniel Hunter – a dry cabernet sauvignon aged in oak – and Dew Drop – a sweet Catawba with honeydew melon essence – are our newest flavors. To have our new Daniel Hunter and Blossoms, our cherry wine, included in a fine chocolate candy is very exciting for us. We’re very proud to have our wines in the recipes and to carry the candies in our store. We plan on adding more wine flavors to our wine list and hope that other confectioners would consider using them in not only candy but baked goods as well.”

“When we first met Ruth and Russ and started talking about chocolate and wine, the idea of using wine in a recipe became a very real possibility. We all thought that this collaboration would be beneficial as everyone knows that chocolate and wine go very well together,” said Tom Follert, Production Manager of The Sweet Spot. “Once Chocolatier Leopold heard of the possibility, the next step was visiting Hidden Creek’s winery and tasting all the wines to see which would work best in a chocolate truffle recipe. Needless to say, Hidden Creek’s Daniel Hunter and Blossoms dark chocolate wine truffles are two of our best sellers. We have plans for the future to include more local wines in our chocolate recipes. We’re constantly working to create new chocolate candy recipes that everyone will love and to bring back some of the best loved candies from the past.”
